A Passion for Oysters

I had the honor of composing the score for the nature documentary film A Passion for Oysters.  The film will premiere at the Chesapeake Film Festival in Easton, Maryland on September 30, 2023. Tickets to attend the festival in-person or online are available.

A Passion for Oysters explores the creative ways watermen, aquaculture farmers and the State of Maryland are working together to expand the oyster population in Chesapeake Bay.

Focus and Goals
My focus is largely acoustic, traditional music of Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales - the "Six Celtic Nations" - plus Galicia.  My goal is to help others learn about this enduring, influential form of music.  If you are a musician, I hope the information on this site will help you to expand your skills.  If you are a listener, I hope you will find that some of the information of this site will enhance your listening experience.

Content
This site contains handouts from the courses I teach, and many links to various music resources.  The courses are aimed at both players and those who can’t sing a note or play a scale.  There’s something here for everyone interested in the music.

Audio Files
Oh yes, capitalism!  This site also contains audio files from my trio, 3 Sheets, and my solo recordings.  Music is always free.  You pay to get the musician to the stage or into the recording studio.  When you enjoy music on this site, or anywhere, buy it.  That modest expense keeps the music flowing for all of us.

Film and Live Theatre Music
I also compose and orchestrate music used in film and live theatre productions.  Most of this work is short - under 90 seconds.  All of it is about reinforcing the action and visuals experienced by the audience during the performances of plays.  Many of these compositions are available at this link:  https://soundcloud.com/bill-troxler/sets
