Sgt. Early's Dream

Chicago Police Sergeant Sgt. James Early (1840-1914)  was from Carrigallen, County Leitrim.  He was considered a leading uilieann piper and reed-maker of his generation.  Chief O’Neil wrote that Sgt. Early was “Kindly, unassuming, patient, tolerant, helpful and hospitable”. This tune is #1419  in O’Neill's” Music of Ireland published in 1903.

Virginia

Virginia is a town in the Republic of Ireland located in County Cavan. Population 3,211.   The town was founded  soon after 1612 during the Plantation of Ulster.  The name “Virginia” derives from the title  “Virgin Queen”, the moniker of Queen Elizabeth I. Today the most recognized product of the town is cream used to produce the Irish Liqueur Balleys Irish Cream.
