Polyrhythms
Advanced Beginning & Beginning Intermediate Students

The technique of polyrhythm is the simultaneous playing of two independent rhythms.  Polyrhythms are found in music all over the world from West Africa, to Southeast Asia, to the Middle East.  Dulcimer players can use polyrhythms to enliven performances and develop expressive playing styles.  This workshop will focus on playing two beat rhythm in one hand and three beat rhythm in the other.  The technique is easily learned by listening to common English language phrases and translating these to hammer strikes.  Demonstration tunes in this workshop will range from fiddle tunes to Beatles tunes.
