Common Ground on the Hill
With Walt Michael as Artistic Director and Founder, I served as president of the board of Common Ground on the Hill during its formation. I continue to serve as a board member and teach music courses during the summer programs.
Common Ground on the Hill was founded on the premise that there is a common human thread unifying all people expressed in our various artistic traditions. Our mission is to make this thread a path toward human understanding, tolerance, fulfillment, and enjoyment.

Music To Read By
I produced Music To Read By at Longtayle Studios. Twelve Island musicians donated twenty-four tracks of performance to raise money for the addition to the Chincoteague Island Library. Styles of music on the CD range from Celtic to bluegrass, blues to new age, Mozart to jazz. It's an hour long celebration of great music played by people who care deeply about their Island and the Library.
100% of the sales price goes to fund the not-for-profit Chincoteague Island Library. For a CD copy via snail mail, visit the Chincoteague Island Library . On Chincoteague Island you can buy Music To Read By at the Chincoteague Island Library Sundial Books, Egret Moon Artworks and many other shops.

Capitol College
I served for twenty-seven years a president of Capitol College.
During my tenure the college built a new campus, created a graduate school and pioneered real-time, on-line delivery of graduate education.
Capitol College is one of a very few institutions in the nation to be certified by the National Security Agency as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. And that was before 9/11. The college maintains one of the few Cyber Warfare Labs in the nation. And Captiol offers an academic program leading to the degree of Doctor of Information Assurance.
Capitol students also manage and operate five earth science satellites for NASA. The campus has a backup control center that supports NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.
While at Capitol I established the guarantee. Graduate from Capitol and you are guaranteed to receive a job offer in your field of study at a nationally competitive salary. If not, you may return for a full time year of additional study without any charge for tuition.
Visit Capitol's website and read about this unique and important college. http://www.micua.org/SolutionsCapitol.pdf.

Washington Academy of Sciences
I am a Fellow of the Washington Academy of Sciences.
The Washington Academy of Sciences was incorporated in 1898 as an affiliation of eight Washington D.C. area scientific societies. The founders included Alexander Graham Bell and Samuel Langley, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. The purpose of the new Academy was to encourage the advancement of science and "to conduct, endow, or assist investigation in any department of science."
Recognition by the Washington Academy of Sciences for my work in education is, quite simply, the honor of a lifetime.

Central Maryland Regional Transit
Thanks to gas prices, public transportation has gained respect and ridership. In the late 1980’s along with a dozen other volunteers I founded the Corridor Transportation Corporation that has grown to become Central Maryland Regional Transit. The goal of the not-for-profit corporation was to put in place, affordable, reliable public transportation in the region between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The first year our buses ran we carried almost 30,000 riders. By the time I retired from the Board and a two year term as president, CTC was carrying more than 1 million riders per year. The organization currently serves more than 2 million riders each year.

Military Service
I spent most of 1968 in Vietnam as a buck-sergeant (E-5) in B Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry regiment of the 4th Infantry Division. They called us the Mechanized Panthers because we tooled around the Central Highlands in armored personnel carriers. The grainy black and white image shows me in my walking clothes of the time. You can learn more about the 4th Infantry Division and its distinguished history here
Stateside I was part of the "Old Guard of the Army". That's the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment stationed at Fort Meyer, VA. The unit has ceremonial duty at Arlington National Cemetery, the White House and Mall. The soldiers of the Old Guard conduct burials, perform ceremonies for the arrival of heads of state.
