Introduction to Harmony Theory

Ultimately every dulcimer player wants to develop a unique style of playing and to create unique arrangements of well know tunes that.  Those goals can be achieved by understanding and applying elements of harmony theory.  This workshop will cover the essential tools needed by an arranger of music of hammer dulcimer:  the circle of 5ths, musical grammar, chord substitution and playing techniques.  The workshop will focus on fitting chords to diatonic melodies.  Demonstrations will be done using traditional and contemporary melodies.  Suggested practice techniques will be provided. For various levels of students.
